About Me


I am a writer, musician and tech entrepreneur.
I became a professional programmer after doing a graduate degree in physics. I worked at big companies like Intel and at age 53, I was CTO of a FinTech startup. When that startup crashed badly, I began my journey towards independence.

Throughout my career, I've had a passion for developing software with small, high-performance teams that move fast and make things. I've done that in clinical trials, airline reservation systems, manufacturing, factory maintenance, accounting, foreign currency, ecommerce, index funds, telecom, GRC, medical device security and a few more I've forgotten by now.

I have been involved in 70+ clinical trials and 5 FDA approvals. I know the challenges. Clinical trials are not for the faint-hearted and weak-stomach.

I am an expert on quantitative threat modeling and security and privacy risk. My threat models are used by thousands of analysts all over the world. I am the cybersecurity and privacy advisor to the WHO for digital health.

I am proud to work with smart, hard-working people, all smarter than me. I am personally involved in the Jordan River Village for children with serious diseases, and My Piece of the Puzzle for at-risk and special-needs teens. I am a daily Qi-gong practitioner, a serious amateur jazz musician, everyday cyclist, and father of four.
